SUBJECT: SANITARY SEWER OVERFLOW
On September 23, 2021 around 8:20 am, the City of Flint Sanitary Sewage Collection System overflowed sanitary sewage from a sanitary sewer manhole onto the ground near 4413 Flushing Road in Flint Township that flowed into the Flint River. An undetermined amount of raw sewage and rainwater overflowed onto the ground from the sanitary sewer manhole and is still ongoing. This discharge was due to a failure of the connection of the North West Pump Station Diversion pipe to the deep tunnel interceptor. The City of Flint Water Pollution Control Facility is in the process of correcting the situation with the engineers and contractors. As a precautionary measure required by law, the State of Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy and the Genesee County Health Department have been notified.
