February 10, 2016 (Flint, MI) — As previously advised, a large water transmission line adjacent to Dort Highway in the City of Flint broke Tuesday morning resulting in a water main break on Dupont Road. Utilities Administrator Michael Glasgow states that the water main break has been contained.
“The leak was completely isolated as of Tuesday night. Water pressures should be back at normal operating levels across the city,” Glasgow said today. He added, “Crews are still assessing the damage and starting on the actual repair of the affected water main.”
When asked about the cause of the break, Glasgow said so far there is no real obvious cause. “I would relate it to our antiquated system.”
Bacteria testing was expected to be complete late Thursday. A decision on whether to suspend the boil water notice will be made once the results have been reviewed.
