Mayor Sheldon Neeley Urges Immediate Release of Flint Water Settlement Funds

FLINT, MI — Mayor Sheldon A. Neeley has sent a formal letter to Special Master Deborah Greenspanthe court-appointed administrator of the Flint Water Crisis Settlement, urging the immediate release of settlement payments to Flint residents who have waited far too long for justice and relief.

In the letter, Mayor Neeley writes, “The Flint Water Crisis was not just a public health disaster—it was a betrayal of trust that caused deep trauma, financial hardship, and lasting health consequences for thousands of families.”

He goes on to emphasize the urgency of the situation, stating, “Many of our residents are still dealing with the long-term effects of lead exposure, medical bills, and emotional distress. They cannot afford to wait any longer.”

More than a decade after the initial crisis, many Flint families continue to await the compensation they were promised. Mayor Neeley is calling on the court to expedite the payment process and eliminate unnecessary administrative hurdles to ensure that residents and their families receive their rightful settlement funds without further delay.

“The people of Flint have waited long enough,” Mayor Neeley said. “Justice delayed is justice denied. It’s time to deliver on the promises made to this community.”

Mayor Neeley expressed appreciation for the hard work of the court and its administrators throughout this process and stated that he remains prayerful for a just and fair conclusion to the settlement.
