The City of Flint is sharing several updates for Flint residents about city services during the holidays and the waste collection schedule, as well as a message from Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank both City of Flint employees and Flint residents for their hard work and dedication to our community over the past year,” Mayor Neeley said. “I’m looking forward to new opportunities to enhance city services and advance the City of Flint in 2024. The Mayor’s Office is always available to hear residents’ ideas for moving Flint forward.”
Flint City Hall will be closed to the public Friday, Dec. 22, Monday, Dec. 25, Friday, Dec. 29, and Monday, Jan. 1 in observance of Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Flint City Hall will be open during normal business hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Dec. 26 through 28, and normal business hours will resume after the holidays on Jan. 2.
The red drop box in front of City Hall will be open for water payments, property taxes, and any other correspondence. Police, fire, the water service center, and the wastewater plant will continue to operate 24 hours a day.
The weeks of Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, waste collection will be delayed by one day for all service areas in the city of Flint. Please refer to the waste collection map showing the delayed pickup schedule for all service areas. The normal waste collection schedule will resume the week of Jan. 8.
Priority Waste will collect Christmas trees in the three weeks after Christmas, January 2-19.
All waste must be put to the curb before 7 a.m. on collection days to guarantee pickup. Waste is collected between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Service is never guaranteed at specific times within the 7 a.m.-7 p.m. window.
Compost and leaf collection ended in the city of Flint on Dec. 1, 2023 and will resume on Apr. 1, 2024. Residents are advised to not put leaves at the curb, in plastic bags or otherwise. They will not be picked up.
Alternatively, residents can mulch leaves with a mower to be used as a natural fertilizer for lawns. Whole or shredded leaves may be used as mulch for the base of trees and shrubs, and well as in flower beds and vegetable gardens. Compost piles or compost bins are other alternatives. Or, bagged leaves can be stowed away until compost season starts again on April 1, 2024.
