What types of records can be requested under the freedom of information act?
All records prepared, owned, used, in the possession of, or retained by a public body in the performance of an official function are covered by the Freedom of Information Act, with the exception of computer software and records specifically cited as exempt from disclosure. MCL 15.243
How long does it take to receive information requested under the Freedom of Information Act?
The City of Flint must respond to a FOIA request within five business days. If you have submitted your FOIA request via fax or email, please note that the five business days will begin the day after submission. The City can extend the time by an additional ten business days by notifying the requestor in writing.
Are there charges for records requested under the Freedom of Information Act?
Fees may be charged for the necessary copying of a public record for inspection or providing a copy of a public record to a requester. A public body may also charge for search, examination, and review and the separation of exempt from non-exempt information.

Please include name, address, telephone number and email (if applicable) of requester. Please be as precise as possible in request: name of person, date of birth, date and location of incident, etc.
