The Flint Fire Department has received over 200 two-story home escape ladders and 1,500 smoke alarms. In order to receive a home escape ladder residents must first successfully complete a home safety escape ladder installation and use training provided by the local chapter, and develop a fire escape plan for the home. Firefighters will install smoke alarms if needed, and deliver the escape ladders to the home at a later date.
Delivery of the home escape ladders will be scheduled during the training session. Only Flint residents with two-story homes are eligible to receive an escape ladder. Due to the number of ladders awarded, only the first 70 Flint community members at each location will be accepted into the training session to receive an escape ladder.
For more information, or to schedule a smoke alarm check and/or installation if needed, residents can call Sgt. Carrie Edwards at (810) 762-7336 and ask for extension 5225.
