FLINT, Mich.— The City of Flint, and Mayor Sheldon Neeley, are excited to celebrate the accomplishments and commitment of United States Senator Debbie Stabenow, who announced she plans to retire this year after over 30 years of service to Flint, Genesee County and the state of Michigan.
“Senator Stabenow has had a remarkable career of service,” said Mayor Neeley. “She has worked tirelessly for the people of Michigan and her work has directly benefited the people of Flint. She helped to secure funding to provide free summer meals for school children, she worked to expand early head start in Flint, and she had a key role in bringing millions of dollars in funds and resources to help Flint recover from the water crisis. She has done so much, and this is our way of saying thank you and letting her know Flint appreciates her efforts.”
Senator Stabenow is the first female senator elected to the U.S. Senate to represent the state of Michigan. In 2022, she and Senator Gary Peters announced the Mass Transportation Authority (MTA) in Flint would receive a grant of over $4 million to purchase or lease climate friendly buses due to their support of an act in Congress.
“Senator Stabenow has continuously focused on making things better across America and bringing jobs and opportunities to Michigan,” Mayor Neeley added. “Because of her leadership, Michigan is well-positioned to become a leader in the clean energy economy.”
Mayor Neeley will present a Key to the City to Senator Debbie Stabenow on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in Council Chambers on the 3rd floor of Flint City Hall located at 1101 S. Saginaw St. Flint, MI.
