January 27, 2017 (FLINT, Mich) — The City of Flint has taken another step to improve communications to help keep the public informed on what’s happening by updating the City’s website. Cityofflint.com has be modified into a format that visitors should find to be more user friendly so they can obtain important information and complete tasks easier than before.
The Flint water crisis and ongoing recovery effort has vastly increased the number of people seeking information about the City. It has also elevated the need for City officials to relay information to the public. In an effort to fill that need, the Weaver Administration felt it was important to revamp the website to help keep residents, media and other interested parties informed given the City’s limited staff.
“Residents and people all over the world want to know what’s going on in Flint,” commented Mayor Weaver. “Is the water safe now, how many pipes have been replaced, are just some of the questions we’re often asked. The changes being made to the City’s website will make it simpler to find that information and stay informed. We hope people take advantage of this resource and visit the website regularly.”
The web update came to fruition with help from the Flint Sprint Project which was sponsored by the Flint and Genesee Chamber of Commerce and Deloitte Consulting. Over the last few months, members of the Chamber and Deloitte met with the City’s Public Relations Director and representatives from Spud Software the web company already under contract with the City of Flint. Their goal was to make changes to the website to make it easier for visitors to navigate, obtain information, search for jobs and pay utility bills.
The website still maintains the content management system (CMS) that allows for easy access and updates by City employees, so that personnel from each department is able to directly control what is on their section of the website. The use of the CMS means information is updated more efficiently across the site and is more easily controlled.
We hope the public finds the changes made to the website are effective, and urge them to utilize this tool to stay informed on what is happening in the City of Flint.
