City of Flint residents have until next week to bag their leaves for curbside collection. The last regular trash collection day of the year for yard waste is Saturday, November 28, 2015. Leaf-filled paper yard waste bags will be picked up on normal trash collection days throughout the City of Flint. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, Thursday and Friday trash day collection will be delayed by one day, making Saturday the last day for pickup. Leaves placed in plastic trash bags will not be collected. Residents are NOT allowed to rake leaves into the street by city ordinance.
Due to the late falling of leaves this year, the City may not be afforded enough time to remove leaves from the street before the onset of winter weather. The City is therefore depending upon residents to bag their yard leaves in order to keep them from gathering in the street and blocking the storm sewers.
Flint residents should expect to see street crews and City vacuum trucks passing through their neighborhoods in order to collect leaves that naturally fall from non-residential trees located between the curb and the sidewalk (the public right-of-way). These City cleanups performed to keep streets and storm drains clear should not be mistaken as an option for residents to replace or avoid the BAG IT requirement. Citations will be written and enforced for residents not complying with the city ordinance.
Residents that need assistance with leaf cleanup are encouraged to seek volunteer help from their church, neighbors, neighborhood association, block club, or local youth group. Individuals or community organizations wishing to provide assistance to seniors or the disabled should contact KGCB at 810.767.9696.
