FLINT, Mich.—November 22, 2022
Flint City Hall will be closed to the public Thursday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Nov. 25 in observance of Thanksgiving, and will reopen Monday, Nov. 28 with normal business hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The red drop box in front of City Hall will be open for water payments, property taxes, and any other correspondence. Police, fire, the water service center, and the wastewater plant will continue to operate 24 hours a day.
The week of Nov. 21, Priority Waste trash, compost, and recycling collection will be delayed by one day for Thursday and Friday pickups only. Thursday customers will have waste collection on Friday, Nov. 25 and Friday customers will have waste collection on Saturday, Nov. 26. The normal collection schedule will resume the following week.
Compost collection ends Dec. 2
The following week, Nov. 28-Dec. 2, will be the last compost collection for the year. City of Flint residents are required to rake and bag their leaves in paper yard waste bags for curbside collection on weekly trash days.
The City of Flint’s Street Maintenance team has completed their seasonal collection of leaves that fall naturally into the street from city-owned trees located between the curb and sidewalk (the public right-of-way). This cleanup happens once per street and should not be mistaken as an option to replace the leaf-bagging requirement.
Composting alternatives
When compost collection ends on Dec. 2, several composting alternatives are available. Residents can mulch leaves with a mower to be used as a natural fertilizer for lawns. Whole or shredded leaves may be used as mulch for the base of trees, shrubs, and flower beds. Shredded leaves can be tilled into a vegetable garden to provide nutrients. Residents can make a compost pile or compost bin. Or, bagged leaves can be stowed away until compost season starts again in April 2023.
For a fee, residents can also drop off leaves at Country Oaks Landscape Supply, located at 3218 E. Atherton Rd. in Burton or Fick Landscape Supply located at 6452 Corunna Rd. in Flint Twp. Call Country Oaks Landscape Supply at 810-743-1920 or Fick Landscape Supply at 810-691-9702 for more information.
