GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Patrols the City of Flint to prevent crime, arrest violators of law, protect life and property, investigate traffic accidents, control traffic and maintain law and order. Performs related work as required.
 
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must be certified or certifiable as a State of Michigan law enforcement officer.
2. Ability to operate an automobile safely and in accordance with traffic laws.
3. Ability to understand and adhere to the laws and rules of the department.
4. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
5. Ability to prepare written reports.
6. Ability to deal courteously and firmly with the general public.
7. Aptitude for, or skill in, the use of firearms.
8. Ability to qualify on physical strength and agility test.
9. Vision must be a minimum of 20/50 in each eye, corrected to 20/20.
10. Hearing must be normal in each ear.
11. Personal record such as to withstand rigid criminal and character background investigations.
12. Ability to meet the mental standards of the job.
13. Ability and willingness to work in a manner that will not needlessly endanger the safety of one's self, other persons and equipment.
14. Possession of a good moral character as determined by a background investigation under procedures established by the City of Flint Police Department.
15. No felony convictions or high court misdemeanors.
16. Ability to successfully pass drug screening, physical and psychological evaluations.

Application packets will be accepted now through 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at the Department of Human Resources & Labor Relations, City of Flint Municipal Center, 1101 S. Saginaw St., Room 9, Flint, Michigan 48502. Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of application. In order to receive the application packet, you must show a valid drivers license and proof of certification. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Twenty-one (21) years of age inclusive on date of application. (Applicants who will attain minimum age within three (3) calendar months following date of examination shall be deemed acceptable.)
2. Possession of a valid Drivers License (a valid State of Michigan Driver's License will be required at time of appointment).

GENERAL

 

Flint is a dynamic city of over 120,000 population with unsurpassed educational facilities.  A junior college and a branch of the University of Michigan are centrally located in the city. Employment with the City of Flint is contingent on meeting the medical standards of the position. A pre-employment physical examination administered by the City is required. Any serious medical condition may be cause for disqualification.
