The Department of Human Resources is recruiting for the position of:
FIRE CHIEF

$80,000 Annual
 
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Performs a variety of technical, administrative and supervisory work; Planning, organizing, directing and implementing fire prevention and suppression to prevent or minimize the loss of life and property by fire.
 
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Graduation from a college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Public Administration or a closely related field;
2. Seven (7) years of experience in fire or emergency medical service work, three (3) years of which must have been equivalent to Fire Lieutenant or higher;
3. Completion of the Fire Basic Training Academy or equivalent OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
4. Thorough knowledge of modern fire suppression and prevention and emergency services principles, procedures, techniques and equipment.
5. Considerable knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, departmental standard operating procedures and regulations.
6. Skill in the operation of the listed tools and equipment.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older at time of hire.
2. Must possess or be able to obtain by time of hire a valid State of Michigan Driver's License;
3. Must possess Commercial Drivers' License endorsement or certification of Emergency Vehicle Accident Prevention Program (EVAP) without record of suspension or revocation in any state.
4. No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven (7) years.
5. Ability to read and write the English language.
6. Ability to meet Departmental physical standards.

GENERAL

 

Flint is a dynamic city of over 120,000 population with unsurpassed educational facilities.  A junior college and a branch of the University of Michigan are centrally located in the city. The city is undergoing dramatic physical change, with downtown development projects, and urban renewal projects.
