Agreement With AFSCME Local #1799 Employees
Flint, Michigan – January 13, 2011– Flint Mayor Dayne Walling announced today that the City of Flint has reached a tenative contract agreement with AFSCME Local #1799 employees. Details of the double digit concessions agreement are not being released until a ratification vote by the membership.
AFSCME local #1799 represents about 70 City of Flint supervisors from various city departments. Members are expected to vote on the contract in two weeks. If the contract is ratified it will then go the the Flint City Council for their approval.
Mayor Dayne Walling said the “Spirit of Cooperation” continues to be strong at Flint City Hall in the New Year. “The negotiating teams from my administration and the union have been at the table working through a lot of issues. It is encouraging to see that they stayed the course to achieve this agreement,” said Mayor Walling. “I am really encouraged to see our city’s supervisors willing to do their part in this tough budget climate.”
Earlier this week members of the City's largest employee union AFSCME local #1600, which represents about 380 city employees, voted overwhelmingly to accept a contract that included double digit concessions.
The City of Flint is hoping to reach similar agreements with its remaining unions.
